Iain Abernethy
Iain Abernethy has been involved in the martial arts since childhood and is well-known for his practical approach to karate and related fighting systems. A 5th Dan instructor with the British Combat Association, Iain is in great demand on the seminar circuit and currently conducts around 40 seminars a year on close-range combat and his holistic approach to the traditional arts.

Iain’s books on practical martial arts have proved very popular, have sold all over the world, and are now in the process of being translated into other languages. His views on the traditional katas and forms have also struck a cord with many martial artists wanting to make sense of this greatly misunderstood aspect of martial training. Indeed, Geoff Thompson has described Iain’s work on the applications of the traditional katas as “pioneering”. Iain also regularly writes for the UK’s leading martial arts magazines and is a member of the Combat Hall of Fame.
