BCA Senior Instructor Steve Timperley
World Martial Arts Hall of Fame!

Recently Steven Timperley BNMA (Hons), Chief Instructor and founder of Trident Self-Defence Training (TSDT) was inducted into Action Martial Arts Magazine’s ‘Hall of Fame’ at a star studded gala banquet held in Atlantic City (NJ) USA.  During the event Steven and fellow British martial artists dined with martial arts action film stars and iconic figures from the industry.  Those present at the awards ceremony were Don ‘The Dragon’ Wilson, Cynthia Rothrock, Bill ‘the Super-Foot’ Wallace and world martial arts ambassador Mr. Alan Goldberg to name but a few.  Steven is only one of a handful of British martial artists to have ever been inducted into this select and elite sports ‘Hall of Fame’, the largest and most celebrated of its kind.  Steven who is already the recipient of three ‘National Instructors Awards’ and a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ was honoured at the ‘World Martial Arts Awards’ in recognition of his years of tireless dedication to others and having developed specific self-protection training programmes.  In addition to his induction Steven was also invited to instruct on the world stage at the martial arts trade show and expo-event.  Steven who admits he feels extremely privileged says in reflection of the combined events:

“To have been inducted into the most prestigious ‘Martial Arts Hall of Fame’ and to have represented my country has been the icing on the cake so far regarding my martial arts career and voluntary work in teaching others self-protection skills over the past 10 years or so. Also, to have been invited to instruct on the same billing along side the likes of Don ‘the Dragon’ Wilson and Bill ‘the Superfoot’ Wallace’ was mind-blowing as it was these guys who had inspired me a young boy some 27years earlier”.

Regards,

Steve

Steven Timperley's Profile
Originating from Nottingham Steven aged fourteen commenced his martial arts edification in Wado Ryu Karate. Over the years he has trained in a variety of martial arts systems but now concentrates on unarmed combat and real self-defence training reinforced with a wide-ranging and intense fitness regime.

In 2003 Steven devised his own system of self-defence entitled Trident Self-Defence Training (TSDT). Called Trident because it is a three pronged concept of learning; the confidence to confront an aggressor, the ability to apply realistic techniques and the development of character through pragmatic instruction.

To date Steven commits a considerable amount of his spare time to instructing community support based teams and educational establishments. As a result of his voluntary work and his MASTARR approved self-protection and personal security training development programmes he has become the recipient of four national awards. The first three, National Instructor’s Awards were presented to him by the British National Martial Arts Association (BNMAA) for his contribution to and the development of martial arts in the United Kingdom.

The forth is the prestigious ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ which was presented to him at the ‘Pro-Fitness Convention’ held at the NEC in 2004 by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) for his outstanding commitment to the fitness industry.

To date Steven has built a strong reputation as being an individual who cares and commits 100% to those he instructs and it is this dedication to others that has been reported as commendable on numerous occasions.

Steven holds a 3rd Dan black belt in Brithai (BNMAA), 1st Dan in Self-Defence (AMA); he is an approved HMP C & R instructor, an Army Restraint & Arrest Instructor and a qualified Army Physical Training Instructor (PTI). In additional to the above he is also an Advanced Fitness Instructor with the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs).

In January 2006 Steven will be a member of the BNMAA delegation of martial artists representing the UK at the ‘World Martial Arts Awards’ in Atlantic City USA. During the awards ceremony he will be inducted into the ‘World Martial Arts Hall of Fame’ making him one of only a handful of British martial artists to achieve global recognition at this event. In addition to the above whilst in Atlantic City Steven will be teaching on the world stage and mixing with some of the world’s most prolific martial artists.

Recently Steven was signed up by ‘Sweatnetwork’ a new martial arts lifestyle magazine due out in 2006 to be a columnist. This magazine will be a fusion of Men’s Health & Fitness meets Black Belt magazine.

Steven’s main hobbies and likes are family time and music. His dislikes are those who instruct traditional and sports based martial arts and package/advertise their systems or styles as creditable forms of self-defence training. On this Steven says: “those who instruct the aforementioned and claim they are teaching self-defence obviously have never been on the receiving end of a violent or life threatening attack. In order to combat the modern day aggressor we must urbanise our traditional skills accordingly and as instructors furnish our students with the correct information required to safeguard lives”.
