Matt Clempner It says everything about Matt's martial arts that he was the first non-Russian ever to receive their highest sporting award - the 'Master of Sport', in recognition of his work in both Sambo and traditional Russian martial arts.
It was at the age of 10 years, that Matt started training in Judo, following by Freestyle Wrestling and at 14 years went on to become a member of the English National Judo Squad. It was in 1976 he began his study of Sombo, going on to win the British Championships and taking a Bronze in the Baku Open. A frequent traveller to Russia to train, Matt is acknowledged as the U.K.'s foremost instructor in Russian Martial Arts. A full time Police Defensive Tactics Instructor, he is the BJA's national co-ordinator for self defence.
